Missions

Missions Committee Goal: to help spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to help people in need: in Pickerington, in Ohio, and wherever we can.

The following is an overview of the many ways in which Peace Church is involved in service to the community, locally and globally. Our hope is that this web site will help each of you find a way to use your unique gifts in the Lord’s service.

Mission Projects

Construction Projects - Camp Otterbein Campgrounds - Construction of a climbing wall, general cleaning and painting is needed. For information on how you can help, please contact Brett Kim.

Disaster Relief / Recovery and Emergency Response Team - If you want to get involved, please contact Al Wacker or Brett Kim.

Faith Mission - Provides meals and shelter for homeless individuals as well as provides funds to buy food for the homeless. For more information on how you can help, contact the church office.

Festival of Sharing - School bags for needy children are put together every year by volunteers from our church as well as other churches throughout the West Ohio Conference. Our church made 246 bags last year and plan to do it again this year! Those interested in helping should contact Brett.

Habitat for Humanity - Peace works in conjunction with the East Side Partnership, a cooperative of churches working together, to build houses for deserving families in the central Ohio area. For information on how you can help, please contact the Peace Habitat coordinator, Dick Sloan. For more information on Habitat for Humanity, visit their website at www.habitatforhumanity.org.

Hospital Equipment Loan Program - Peace collects and loans durable medical equipment to those in need. Items include crutches, canes, walkers, wheelchairs, bedside commodes, etc. For information on how you can help or if you know someone in need, please call the office.

Jackson Area Ministry (J.A.M.) is a church and community ministry serving the Appalachian counties of southeastern Ohio. Some ways you can participate are: donate or collect used clothing or furniture for those in need; or join work teams to build wheelchair ramps and other repair and construction projects. In the spring, buy vegetable seeds for those in need to help those individuals become more self-sufficient in providing food. Bring the seed packages to Peace. For information on how you can help, please contact Al Wacker.

Missions Sunday -  The 2nd Sunday of every month is designated as Missions Sunday at Peace. The congregation is asked to bring one food item per member of the family and place it in collection boxes at the east and west entrances. The food items are taken to the Pickerington Food Pantry.

Open Shelter Dinners - We need volunteers to help serve Open Shelter dinners to the homeless. For information on how you can help, please contact Tom Kincaid.

Red Bird Mission, located in Beverly, Kentucky, is a part of the United Methodist Church Ministry to Appalachia outreach. This mission provides a place of worship for the local folks and a Christian focused school for children in this area. They also provide housing during the school year for students without any means to go back and forth to the school. Some mountain families live in homes that do not have access to any roads and the children have to walk across the mountains to get to the school. Red Bird Mission also provides a health clinic for the folks in the area since the nearest doctors or hospital is many miles away. The mission also helps to create jobs in this poverty stricken area by buying local art and craft items and selling the goods at various churches across the US. The profits are then used to run the school and health clinic and to provide employment for some of the local folks.

Youth Work Camp - Adults & youth (grades 7 & up) will be going to Jackson, Ohio, July 5-11, to build wheelchair ramps, roof houses, paint and more. For more information about work camp, contact our Youth Pastor.
