LENT
BEGAN FEBRUARY 17
On Wednesday,
February 17, we
entered one
of the most important seasons of the church year—the “40 days” of Lent.
Lent is a forty-day period before Easter. It began on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 17,
and ends on April 3, which is the day before Easter. We skip Sundays when we
count the forty days.
Lent
is a season of soul-searching and repentance. We take stock of our lives and
our relationships to discover and change what we must to prepare for Easter and
experience the spiritual renewal that comes when we engage in this type of
“making right” activity. So, during Lent we each follow the example of Jesus
by sacrificing our own will to the purpose of God.
LENT
IS A TIME TO …
Pray for yourself and others daily
Give up something special to you
– dessert, beverages, bread, your favorite TV program, chocolate or some of
your time and …
Give yourself to others … call
someone you have been meaning to call but just never get around to it, spend
some time with a shut-in or in a nursing facility, write those notes you keep
putting off. (Try doing something
each day.)
Repent … remember when you have
been less than you should be … and do something about it.
Change … turn around!
Remember how Christ suffered …
and how even He asked God to “take this cup from me” … watch “The
Passion of the Christ” and know that He truly understands.
Read a devotion each day. Pick up a
Daily Bread, Upper Room, or click on the “links to
other sites” at the bottom of this page for links to daily devotions
online.
Do these things and be sure to take
part in all the special services so you will be ready for Easter and its
promises.

Palm Sunday
On March 28, the Sunday School children will meet in their
Sunday School rooms then parade to the sanctuary waving palm branches for the
worship celebration. Children will then return to their Sunday School rooms.
Palms wave and the crowd cheers and shouts “hosanna, hosanna, blessed is he who
comes in the name of the Lord!” We take the next step with Jesus as he rides
into Jerusalem
to a hero’s welcome. But those cheers were shallow and the celebration was
short-lived for Jesus as he walked through this Holy Week.
Good Friday Passion
Reenactment
April 2, 7:00 p.m. (Childcare provided;
transportation available.)
Jesus’ journey on this earth is coming to an end. The twelve
men he called to be His disciples to walk with him were flawed men, not saints;
not finished products, but works in progress, just like us. They walked with
Jesus, they learned, they failed, they denied, they ran … not fully
understanding … but they loved Him. They watched as Jesus walked the Via
Dolorosa carrying not only the cross, but the weight of everyone’s sins. They
cried as nails were pounded into His hands and feet and as they watched them
lift the cross … they cringed as they heard the thud as the cross was dropped
into the ground. Does their walk with Jesus stop here at the foot of the
cross? Can they continue? What can they do? How can they go on without Jesus?
Come to Jerusalem
on Good Friday and walk along with Jesus down this road of grief and pain to
death and burial.

love him and show myself to him.” Our journey continues and Jesus is
right there walking with us!
