Work Camp

Hello to all parents and work camp volunteers.  We are quickly gearing up for our 2008 Work Camp in Chillicothe, Ohio. Work camp is open to all current 7 – 12 graders and adult volunteers. This work camp is scheduled for July 5 – 11.

MANDATORY WORK CAMP ORIENTATION for all volunteers is Sunday, June 29, at 2:00 p.m.

The cost of work camp this year is $65 for the week.  We are making every effort possible to offset that cost. Currently, we are holding a sponsor-a-student campaign which will allow our members, attendees, and various church groups to donate the $65 needed in order to send a student to work camp.  As well, we also feel that it is important for the students to work their way toward work camp.  In order to do this, we are offering the Work Camp Points program.

Work Camp Points will encourage individual students to participate in various volunteer efforts available through the church in order to accumulate points.  These points will be redeemed for “dollars” toward work camp.  For example:

Student Wendy Worker Warrior has volunteered to assist with the Easter morning breakfast, served at the homeless shelter, and participated at AGORA ministries.  Each of these activities would give her 4 work camp points, for a current total of 12 points. Once she has accumulated 20 points, she will be eligible for full sponsorship / full fees paid through the sponsor-a-student program.

Thus, each time the student participates in a service project, the student will earn 4 points. A total of 20 points is needed in order to qualify for full sponsorship. Partial sponsorships will be available and will be based upon the number of points accumulated.  A list of some of the various volunteer opportunities is attached. It is the individual student’s responsibility to sign-up for and complete the chosen volunteer project(s).  Also, you may download the form that the student needs to complete, have signed by the various volunteer leaders, and submit to Allie in order to get credit for the program that they participated in.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 837-3732 or youth@peaceumc.org.

Thank You

Allie Sberna

Director of Youth Ministries
